LONELY IN THE LAND OF LETTERS
…“Of all my skirts, this is my favourite”, said my grandmother, smiling through her green eyes. “It’s a vintage Dior, ma petite puce”. We stood side by side in the midst of the clothing collection that gave her so much pride. The room is filled with a strong scent of mothballs and soap. “This will all be yours. You can have it when you are a little older and go out dancing with your copines”. I didn’t want to tell her that I was never invited on such occasions, that I was always alone. I didn’t want to make her sad. It was only later in life that I learned loneliness is something you feel, not something you are.
